 Hiking Accessory and Book Deals

**At the time I published this post, all items are at the prices indicated.  Prices can fluctuate as fast as weather on the A.T. in spring though, especially on Amazon. So check and make sure you’re still getting a good deal when you click on the links!

IMPORTANT HEADS UP: I am finding that I can purchase some of these add-on items without $25 worth of qualifying items in my cart.  I ordered the Outward Hound Bowl this morning by itself (with free Prime shipping too!)

TentLab Deuce #2 Trowel

If ya gotta go #2 in the woods, this 0.6 ounce Deuce #2 Trowel is your ticket to digging a sufficiently deep (6 inches, if you’re wondering) cat hole.  I have the original version of this trowel, and I love it, but I think the newer, improved model with the serrated edge would be even more efficient at the task at hand.  It’s on sale for $16.50 right now at Amazon in this green color (and the other colors vary in price, some not much more than this).

Garmin InReach Mini

It’s a rare day to find the Garmin InReach Mini on sale, so if it’s been on your list, get it!  This is at least a little savings during the Amazon sale).  Place like REI typically won’t let you use coupons on Garmin products either, just FYI.

Waterproof Cell Phone Case

Amazon is running a great sale, $7.99, on this 2-pack of waterproof cell phone cases that get good reviews.  I have a similar product from Outdoor Research that was a lot more expensive than $4!  I find myself using it for more than just backpacking trips too, when I’m trying to keep my cell phone protected from rain.

Baddest Bees 3-Pack of Fuses

These are a really cool gift idea, but they’re also great to have in your stash of fire-making supplies.  Super light and they work great as a fire starter. They’re on sale for $14.39 for a 3-pack of them and free shipping, whether you have Prime or not!

Outward Hound Collapsible Dog Bowl

Another add-on steal at Amazon right now.  $2.79 for Outward Hound’s Collapsible Dog Bowl!  It weighs 0.8 ounces, so clearly it’s not add much for you or your pooch to carry it on a hike!  Looks like only the large is available at this low of a price, BUT it’s a record low price for Amazon!

Also, I purchased this bowl as a single item in my cart today, without $25 worth of qualifying items to go with it.  It may not work forever that way, but it did this morning (12/19)!

Frontiersman Bear Spray

If you live in Grizz country, ya gotta suck it up and carry bear spray (I even carry it for my solo hikes in western NC). This brand is on sale right now at Amazon for $18.60 which is steal!!  Insider tip: You can’t fly with it, even in checked luggage. So don’t buy it if you’re just gonna use it on a trip elsewhere that you fly to get to, unless you’re willing to ship it out to yourself with ground shipping.

Head Net 2-Pack

Great deal on a 2-pack of head nets ($5.59) for mosquito season, which feels like a distant memory on this chilly morning. White only at this price, but the other colors are only $7.99 if you like your head nets to have a bit more pizzazz.

My family thru hiked the West Highland Way in Scotland in 2017, and I wish I had discovered these before that little trek–midges are enough to make you crazy in certain spots, just FYI, if you have it on your bucket list!

FlowFly Backpack

I can’t personally attest to the durability or quality of this FlowFly 35L Backpack, but I can tell you that it’s super cheap when you use code 50BS9IHZ which brings the price down to $9.29!  Free returns on it too, so there’s not much to lose if you want to order and see it in person.

UNO Wilderness Version

I’ve been price watching UNO Wilderness for the entire Christmas season, and $8.60 is the best I’ve found yet (and I purchased it at this price!).  You also get free one-day shipping with it, if that excites you too.  It doesn’t matter how old my kids get, they still love UNO (me too!).

Hiker Multi-Tool

This little guy still steals my heart and it’s still on sale for $9.61!  I think it would make a great gift for your hiker friends, but it also looks fairly useful too.  The listing claims it has the following functionality: Signal mirror, pry tip, cord cutter, 2 position hex wrench, 4 position hex wrench, can opener, flat head screwdriver, ruler (1 inch), butterfly wrench and bottle opener.

Two Etekcity Stoves

If one is good, then two must be better, right?!  Seriously though, if you want to have a backup stove, have an inexpensive gift at the ready for a hiking buddy, this is a GREAT deal:  $17.99 for 2 Etekcity stoves.

Tactical Neck Knife

This tactical neck knife comes highly recommended by one of my Facebook group members and it’s $3.15 as an add-on price right now!  And as a reminder, an add-on price means you need $25 worth of stuff in your Amazon cart to get it for this low of a price, but that includes the price of the add-on items.

CRKT Squid Folding Pocket Knife

The CRKT Squid Folding Pocket Knife is $14.99 in the “black blstonewash” version.

CRKT Eat’N Tool Outdoor Spork Multitool

This fun little Eat’n Tool from CRKT has a spoon, fork, bottle opener, screwdriver & 3 hex wrench holes.  All for $5.02 as an add-on item (silver only at this price, but the others aren’t too much more).  An add-on item means you need to order $25 worth of qualifying items from Amazon to get this price.

Long Handled Eat’n Tool from CRKT

The long handled version of the Eat’n Tool from CRKT will only set you back a few more bucks at $7.58.  It’s also an add-on item.

Garmin Fenix 5S Plus Sapphire Watch

If you’ve had your eye on the Garmin fenix 5s Plus Watch, here’s your chance to score it for $100 off at Amazon today!  Soooo many feature on this watch and it’s still pricey, even with the discount, but folks who own these watches seem to love them.

Intex Portable Solar Camping Shower

Great add-on item: 5-gallon solar shower at a rock bottom price right now:  $3.92!   These really do work well and are great for car camping adventures or even in the backcountry if you don’t mind lugging in an extra pound. An add-on item means you have to purchase $25 or more of qualifying items to get this item, but I imagine that’s not too difficult for many of us during the holidays!

Lifestraw

Huge 52% discount on a LifeStraw, bringing it to $11.99!.  These make a great backup water filtration method for your backpack

LuminAID Lanterns

Nice sale on Amazon forLuminAID Lanterns.  These make great gifts and the prices vary by the color and power source.

Camelbak Water Bottle

Nice deal on a Camelbak Water Bottle.  It’s $10.40 right now which is 31% off.

Therm-a-Rest Z Seat Cushion

Record low price on the Therm-a-Rest Z Seat Cushion.$11.21 which is a steal!  This would make an awesome gift idea (or just for yourself).  Hands down, this is one of my favorite personal pack items. It’s great for keeping your butt off the wet ground, providing an additional, small layer of insulation under your sleeping pad, for extra padding between sore knees in your sleeping bag, and it could even be used as a makeshift splint in a medical situation.

Tervis Wraps Happy Trails Tumbler

Tervis Tumbler Tervis tumbler

Um, hello adorable gift idea!  I am a sucker for all things Tervis and I LOVE all their clever designs for every hobby and interest under the sun!  You can score a Tervis 16 oz. Tumbler in tons of different designs for $11.89 plus free shipping when you take advantage of the current offer for 20% off plus a mystery offer (which is an additional 10% off).  Plus FREE SHIPPING on all orders!  These tumblers may be my teacher gifts this Christmas!

Campfire Roasting Sticks

These Campfire Roasting Sticks are $5.75 as another great add-on item at Amazon.  They telescope out to a longer length than what the photo shows, and they’d make a great gift idea for your s’more lovin’ friends or kids!

Etsy

hiker girl necklacemap coasters

Lots of Etsy sellers provided me with exclusive coupon codes to use on their hiker and nature-related gifts and works of art. Head right here to see all their beautiful art and access the exclusive coupon codes.

gaiagps

20-50% discount off of a Gaia GPS navigational app subscription.  Gaia is running a holiday sale on a subscription as well, but you can get it for cheaper through my affiliate link!  You can also head to Gaia’s website and learn about how great it is to have with you on a hike (or when you’re planning for your next one).

Hero Clip

Hero Clip has offered our group an exclusive discount of 10% on most of their medium sized model clips.  Use coupon code GIFTFORALL.

Outdoor Adventure Books

Amazon is running another book promotion right now:  $5 off book purchases of $20 or more with code GIFTBOOK18 (only books sold by Amazon and Kindle books don’t apply, unfortunately).  I initially thought you had to use this on one book over $20, but it’s better than that:  You just need to have $20 worth of books!

A book to consider using during this promotion, if you like to make your own backpacking meals but don’t want to deal with the extra step of dehydrating your own food is Backcountry Foodie’s Ultralight Recipes for Outdoor Explorers.

I own this book and used it almost exclusively for my Wonderland Trail hike this past September, since I didn’t have much time to dehydrate food for the trip.  I am not kidding when I say this was some of the best stuff I’ve EVER eaten on a trail, and it was well worth the investment!  The ease of putting the recipes together with ready made ingredients is insanely beneficial.

The book calls for a lot of freeze-dried foods, but you can substitute dehydrated ingredients instead (it’s usually cheaper to buy them dehydrated vs. freeze dried).  The benefit to freeze dried is that they often rehydrate quicker and sometimes more like their natural state, but I subbed dehydrated for quite a few things and it worked fine.

The author of this book has a fabulous website with tons of information (she’s a dietician by trade and nutrition on the trail is very important to her) and she’s just an all around great person (I emailed back and forth with her some, after I bought the book and had some questions).

You can find all the Kindle deals for outdoor oriented books right here, but here’s a couple that caught my eye:

Merle’s Door:  Lessons from a Freethinking Dog

$2.99 as a Kindle Deal right now.  This looks like an interesting read if you’re a dog lover!  Lots and lots of great reviews too!

If You Didn’t Bring Jerky, What Did I Just Eat?

Field and Stream magazine’s columnist has a collection of witty essays in this book.  $1.99 in the Kindle version right now!

My favorite book to learn and hone my skills with backcountry navigation.  I like to have it on my Kindle so I can reference it in the backcountry, if needed.  The Kindle version is on sale right now for $7.58, and the paperback version is only slightly higher at $7.98 if you like a book in hand.

Looking for more deals?  You can find all the deals I’ve posted right here.  And if you want to find out about hiking and camping gear deals the quickest way, come join my Facebook group,Backpacking, Hiking, and Camping Deals where I post the best deals and sales in the industry as as soon as I find them.
