Blendtec Blender on Sale at Amazon

Blendtec Blender

This Blendtec Blender is close to a record price on Amazon today. It’s $169.95 which is 41% off.  While it may be more expensive than a run-of-the-mill blender, I find that it’s totally worth the investment, since it does such a great job with every task I throw its way, and it’s stood the test of time in my kitchen (I use mine A LOT).  And even though it’s pricey, Vitamix is even pricier!

And yes, I realize no one is gonna shove this down in their pack for a backcountry campsite.  BUT, if you dehydrate food for said trips into the wild, a Blendtec Blender is the bomb for helping with that task.  I absolutely love my Blendtec for the following foods (and this is just the tip of the iceberg–I only have time to write 3 out right now!):

  • Yogurt:  I typically puree plain yogurt with thawed, frozen fruit, dehydrate it by spreading it on dehydrator sheets in my Excalibur Dehydrator, and then I throw it in the Blendtec to turn it into a powder of sorts.  It rehydrates better that way (the alternative to this is just tearing the sheets into pieces but I like the “powdered” method better.
  • Sour Cream:Yep, you can dehydrate it, and yep, it’s awesome when you also dehydrate white chicken chili and add it to it (and yes, I have a recipe for that white chicken chili that I’ll share!).
  • Refried Beans:  I make a homemade recipe of refried beans, dehydrate them, and after they’re sufficiently dehydrated, I put it in my Blendtec and let it go!  They reconstitute so well this way, and Andrew Skurka’s Beans, Rice and Cheese recipe is one of my family’s all-time favorites on the trail!
  • Red Curry Powder.  You can buy this already dehydrated, but with a blender and a dehydrator, I just buy a jar of red curry paste in the grocery store and spread it on my dehydrator sheets.  Afterwards, it gets thrown into the Blendtec, and voila, it’s ready to make this fantastic recipe for Thai Red Curry Rice with Peanut Coconut Sauce from Fresh off the Grid.  I haven’t tried dehydrating coconut milk yet, because I got lazy and bought this bag from Amazon instead!
  • Tomato Paste:  I find that certain backpacking recipes I make call for tomato paste powder.  No need to buy an expensive can of it, when you only need a couple of tablespoons.  Just throw it on a dehydrator sheet, then pulverize it in the blender.  You’re good to go for a lot less money!
  • Fruit Roll Ups/Leather:  My kids love it when I bring fruit roll ups on hikes with us, but I don’t bring the crap you can buy in a grocery store when I can make my own with better ingredients and less sugar.  I’ll share my favorite recipes for them soon (I promise, I will, I’ve just got to get through the holidays!).  For this one though, I use the Blendtec to pulverize the fruit before putting it in the dehydrator

Those are a few of my favorites and solid reasons I love my Blendtec Blender!  It really is a great price today on Amazon, so if you’ve been in the market for a better blender that won’t let you down any time soon, it’s worth the investment, in my opinion!
