**At the time I published this post, all items are at the prices indicated.  Prices can fluctuate as fast as weather on the A.T. in spring though, especially on Amazon. So check and make sure you’re still getting a good deal when you click on the links!

First Aid Kit

You can score this first aid kid for $12.95 right now on Amazon.  Free Prime shipping is also available for Prime members.

I like these kits because I can dissect out what I need from them and carry them in my pack.  Otherwise, I’m stuck buying full packages of various things in them and I end up paying more that way.  If I used all the things in the full packs, it would justify it.  But seeing as how they typically sit in my drawer for years on end collecting dust (which is a good thing, because it means I’m not getting sick or injured on the trail!), this is typically a better deal for most folks.

This one comes with a wide assortment of bandage sizes, including butterfly closures, an emergency blanket, a cold pack, and lots of single use packets of various medications and ointments. It also comes with scissors, but I typically use the ones on my Swiss Army Knife that I love.  Gloves are a nice thing to carry in first aid kit as well, especially if you’ve taken any kind of Wilderness First Aid or Responder courses and come across someone else that needs help and is bleeding or whatnot (and even if you haven’t taken those courses, it’s nice to have them to help someone else to the best of your abilities!).

Finally, after you’ve dissected out what you want for your backpack, you can keep the rest of the stuff in your car in the carry case it comes with.  It’s always nice to have some supplies on the run (especially if you have kids).
