My Top Picks in the REI Winter Clearance Sale

by

Share on FacebookShare on PinterestShare on Email

There’s a big ol’ Winter Clearance Sale happening at REI and REI Outlet right now

REI offers FREE SHIPPING for orders over $50!  If your order doesn’t qualify, you can still take advantage of free shipping, if you live close to a store and have your order shipped there for pickup.

Here are a few of my top picks, based on either the discount offered or their popularity and reputation.  I’ll add to this post as I find more deals, so check back occasionally if you’d like to see what I’ve added.

Please note, that there’s also a chance that some of these recommendations will sell out quickly, since quantities are typically limited in clearance type sales (and they may already be sold out by the time you see this post).

I suggest circling back to sold out items and checking the link again at some point during the sale.  Oftentimes, inventory will be replenished when returns are made.  I’ve scored several things in the past that way.

Jet Boil Mini Mo Cooking System

The Jetboil MicroMo system is 30% off, bringing it down to $97.93!

Big Agnes Copper Spur Tents

Copper Spur UL Tent 1 person

There are plenty of Big Agnes Tents in the clearance sale, but the most popular I’m seeing is the Copper Spur series.  It’s available in various sizes for 25% off.  You’ll get free shipping on any of them.

If the Copper Spur doesn’t fit your needs, there are plenty of other tents (from just about every major brand REI carries), some with even bigger discounts, just FYI.

Sierra Designs Tuolumne Sweater Insulated Jacket

My son has this Sierra Designs Tuolumne Jacket and it’s held up well (and my kids are so hard on clothing, so that’s saying something).  It’s 65% off, which brings it to $50.73 from an original price of $129.

It has Primaloft synthetic insulation which means it’s less fussy than down fill jackets since it’s not quite as big of a deal if it gets weight (although you don’t want any jacket, down or synthetic, to get drenched on a hike).  You’ll get free shipping on it too, since it’s over $50!

REI Autumn Sherpa Hoodie (Plus Sizes-Women)

The REI Autumn Sherpa Hoodie in plus sizes for women is 60% off, bringing it down to $46.83 from $119 originally!  There are two color options available and good choices with sizes at the time of this post.

REI Revelcloud Jackets

The REI Revelcloud Jacket has a solid reputation and both men and women’s versions are up to 66% off, bringing them down to $49.83.  Even if you don’t score one for a discount that huge, you can still save minimum of 59% off on them.  Awesome buy and several color options in both genders (and good size options at the time of this post).

Smartwool Products

I’m a huge fan of Smartwool base layers both for hiking and for sleeping if I’m backpacking.  There is a strong showing of Smartwool products included in the clearance sale, for both men and women.

If you want to read more about the advantages of merino wool while hiking, here’s something I wrote about the topic.

Patagonia Up to 50% Off

Patagonia Torrent Shell Rain Jacket

If you have an affinity for pricey Patagonia, I’m seeing deals up to 50% off.  LOTS of stuff in included, both gear and clothing, for men, women, and kids.

Ex Officio Underwear

Say goodbye to “swamp butt” on the trail!  Ex Officio Underwear are the bomb for preventing it and I can’t imagine ever wearing a pair of cotton underwear on a trail after switching to this brand.  My husband and I even wear them off the trail, because they’re so darn comfortable for every day use too.  We love the Give-n-Go Bikini Briefs (pictured below) and Give-n-Go Boxers, if you’re looking for suggestions.

There’s plenty of other Ex Officio clothing in the mix too, beyond just underwear.  I wear a button down long-sleeve shirt like this one regularly on my hikes.  It’s a great layer for cool mornings or breaks.

Buff Headwear

Junior Buff

Can one have too many buffs?  Not in my world!  They are on sale in a variety of styles, up to 32% off.  If you’re not familiar with Buffs and how versatile and useful they can be on a hike, watch this short video to see all the various ways you can wear them.

Outdoor Research Versaliner Gloves

Outdoor Research Versaliner Gloves are my personal pick for gloves on the trail.  I use mine all the time and absolutely love the versatility they provide.

At first glance they appear to only be a regular ol’ glove.  That is, until you open the zippered pouch on the top of them, which holds a liner to put on top of the glove if it’s raining.  They are not bomb proof with rain, but they do a good enough job as long as you’re not stuck out in it for hours on end. The liner also provides a nice barrier to wind or just an extra layer against the cold. These are one of the most used items in my pack (along with the Versaliner mittens, which sadly they don’t make anymore.)

They’re 30% off right now, in both men’s and women’s sizes, which is a great buy!

I’d love to know if you scored a deal!  Comment below and let me know what you got and why you chose it, if you’re inclined.  Happy shopping and even happier trails to you!

And a huge thank you if you use these links and purchase something at REI.  I receive a small affiliate commission for it if you do, and it helps me keep this site up and running with free content for safety and preparedness topics as well as trip reports and planning guides. 🙂
