Boundary Life Gear Camp Chair
Darrin, the owner and founder of Boundary Life Gear, is 6’7″ tall. He found that all the other chairs similar to this on the market didn’t adjust well to his height. I love it when someone solves a problem by creating something that WILL work for them, and undoubtedly many others.
Here’s a video of Darrin using one of his chairs at home. I encourage you to watch it, to see for yourself how easily he sits in it and how stable it is on an uneven surface. Unfortunately the giveaway he is talking about in the video is over now, but if you like the Boundary Life Gear Facebook page, you can get in on the next one!
Darrin sent me one of these chairs to try and asked that I provide an honest review of it. I was immediately impressed with it when it arrived. It stores in its own matching stuff sack and quickly sets up in less than a minute.
One of the nicest features about the chair is that the leg height is adjustable. Game changer right there, especially if you are blessed with long legs and can benefit from the added height.
I set the Boundary Life chair out, alongside my Helinox Zero, while we had company in town over the holidays. I didn’t do a spreadsheet of any formal statistics of how often people sat in Darrin’s chair versus the Helinox, how tall they were etc., because I didn’t need to. If someone had the choice between the two, they always chose Darrin’s chair to sit in over the Helinox.
To be fair, this is not an ultralight piece of gear. The Boundary Life chair weighs 2.7 pounds versus the Helinox which weighs 1 pound; however, the Helinox is significantly more expensive at $120. At full price, Boundary Life’s chair is a fraction of that. In addition, this chair is much more stable than the Helinox. Darrin relayed to me that he worked with the manufacturer closely to make sure the back poles provided more support to the chair.
Even if you just use it for car camping, sports events, concerts, or at home in your own back yard, it’s well worth the investment, in my opinion.
From the listing, here are a few other features of the chair to consider:
- Supports up to 300 pounds of body weight
- Two large side pockets
- Mesh panels on either side for ventilation
- 90-day “comfort guarantee”
On top of everything else I like about this chair, I really like Darrin. He immediately struck me as a genuine person who wants to help others enjoy the outdoors to the fullest extent without sacrificing their retirement fund to do so. Good, quality gear goes a long way in achieving that goal, and I am excited to support Boundary Life!
